I know this post is 4 months old, and you have long since moved on. But all states have their own laws, and convicted felons usually do have the worst time getting hired because many corporates do not want to risk hiring someone that they think might rob the store, sell drugs or arrive at work under the influence of drugs. However, I really think that it depends on the charges you were convicted of, if you are a repeat offender or if this was a one time mistake and you have sincere motives to make positive changes in your lifestyle. I do not think it's fair to judge, and I would be one of those managers to give someone a chance.
Dollar General has hired people with no criminal background, who end up stealing, and actually, one girl a few months ago had planned a robbery with her boyfriend, she was closing the store and played victim, while he threatened to shoot and they opened the doors and he robbed the store. She confessed the next day.I have also known convicted drug felons who truly did make a change in life, and have never looked back and really, it's just that many people are biased and believe that criminals cannot change.
