I've seen different questions/answers about management hours vs. salary and such. First off, I am a 3rd key/MoD primary closer. I'm sure this won't get to the person I am going to address, but hopeful it will help someone. I have been through 3 managers and 3 crews in a year. I am also on my 3rd DM. The post I was reading talked about 50-60 hours a week and 4-6 hour shifts behind the register. I'm yet to have a manager that tops 50 hours. The current one doesn't always make 40. She never checks unless she is alone, and if alone, will call someone in to check. She doesn't stock, even when it is just she and the cashier. She will set merchandise, but doesn't do much else. Having said that, we are expected to work 4 totes an hour while we work the register. If there are no totes, then it is rolltainers, 1 per hour minimum no matter how busy it gets. We have a very large store It is a chore to keep up with recovery when she wants you in the back but you can't be farther than 30 feet from your register. We just got the news this week that she is leaving and that we have another new DM. I hope he can turn things around because we have a big brand new Family Dollar that just came in around the corner and are loosing business by the minute. Even with all this, I love my job. I only work 20 hours a week when she can count, and I like most of the rest of the crew. I would tell someone wanting to come to work for DG to go ahead, but to be aware of the expectations ahead of time and know that you should be given a bit to learn the store before they just throw you in. Find the most positive associate in the store and ask them about the job. That way you aren't just listening to someone take out their fight with the boss on you. Good Luck.
