Lmao now i know this thread is YEARS old. But DG is paying me $10/hr as PT Key Holder. I also work at CVS as PT Shift Supervisor making $14.35/hr...got the DG job for some extra money that I don't really NEED...gotta learn to manage my CVS income better....SO that being said, it's just not worth it to me ultimately. Hasn't even been a month & I'm already thinking about quitting & asking for more hours at CVS because I know CVS will give me more hours for $4.35 more an hour...
IDK for sure, but I've applied at a total of 9 Dollar Generals (1 about a year 1/2 ago-the only time I took the assessment; 8 about a month ago.) Every one of them kicked out a reply with "we have decided to pursue other candidates at this time."
My guess is the assessment had plenty to do with it, since the last 8 I applied at same time and the replies came at the same time. This is crazy, it's Dollar Store not a Fortune 500 office... smh
I was just told that was the reason I did not get the job. I'm 51 years old, with plenty of retail experience. The questions they ask on the assessment test are very tricky because of perception. I have a very dysfunctional family, and one questions on the test ask me if I always did what my parents told me to do and I said no. I don't know if that means I will not follow authority, but as was pointed out this is not a Fortune 500 company, merely retail

Well that sounds right . I don’t think an employee should be left alone at all actually!! Too many things can happen in such a tiny bit of time at any time of day. But I have a question for you should a cashier be left alone after 5:00 and smells like alcohol and not only did the mod think she smelt like it 2-3 customers went and complained to the mod about it. What do you think at that point was the right thing to do ?? After you respond I’ll let you know the outcome then you can let me know what you think about it !!

Never work for DG corporate zone. They will place you in a store that is a tax write off and get upset if you start to make a difference. They don’t care about the stores in the poor neighborhoods and will send freight that’s deleted and last chance to these stores and hold the store manager accountable for other stores’ trash. They usually place black managers in these stores and do not want them to staff the store up nor make positive changes. Then when you start to make the positive changes, the district manager and Regional LP will come and find something wrong and hold you accountable for the stuff from the other stores that can’t go out! They are racist l!

I just picked a comment, my comments aren't for anyone in particular.
Reading through all the comments, i think it's safe to say that the same rules do not apply at every store or every person. I've seen many different pay grades for the same position, different hours available at different stores. Not all managers make the same, not all keyholder make the same, not everyone is getting 40 hours a week and not everyone is working 20a week. You cannot base everything you get on what someone in another city or state gets. Things change in other locations based on the amount of traffic a store gets, by performance, by the managers relationship with corporate and the customers, your relationship with your immediate supervisor. All these things can be different for everyone. If someone in Alabama is saying they are overworked and under paid, doesn't mean she's lying because someone Georgia says she's not. Just means they are in different locations where different needs have to be met. To argue the way you all are is kinda stupid and childish. If no-one moves up, good chance it could be your attitude.
I'm not sure about where you are, but when I was working in Freeman, SD store, a store manager was to work a minimum of 50 hours a week.
ALDI is the same way. Go in that store and see if you see anybody over the age of 13 I’m in my 40s I have 18 years cafeteria experience and 12 years experience in Walmart in every department in there, so they can’t tell me I didn’t have qualifications they just won’t give you a phone number where you can call back If you ask me yourself A lot of shady things going on with some of the stores

I’m currently waiting on a background check from DG, I have arrests and a misdemeanor marijuana and trespassing from 2013 I’m on pins and needles anxiously awaiting their response. I’ve seen a few people working there that have way more drug offenses than me. Hopefully I get this job. I need it.

On August 12th, I applied online for a part-time Sales Associate. On August 14th, I received an email telling me i needed to complete the hire packet, which approximately 30 minutes later I was finished with. I received an email immediately after completing the hire packet, stating that the hiring manager would contact me. It is currently August 18th and I've recieved no emails, calls, or texts about it. Does this mean I'm not hired? Does the process always take this long?

Dollar General Forum - What's the company culture at Dollar General?: [QUOTE who="HeckiesWife in Guntersville,...
Yes you do. Then at some point they will send you to school for a week (all paid for by company, and should take place prior to you getting your store) and you must pass all the courses then as well. At the end of your schooling week you will be tested and the instructor will then send your results to the DM of your area. However, please be well aware that your pay will be based on the location your store is in and what the sales are like, this will also determine your bonuses. As a store manager you are required to work a minimum of 48 hrs a week but your mandated for 5 days and 1 night, but you will work a minimum of 60 +. They will give you 48 hrs no more no less to put your truck out. no exceptions. Also you should know that you as a manager will be placed in what I call a catch 22 all the time, they like things to look a certain way on paper but in reality they will be forcing you to do things a different way then the paper says.
